Volunteer Program

Volunteer firefighters are an integral part of the Frenchtown Rural Fire District. The Department maintains a roster of volunteers who augment the ranks of the career personnel and assist with fire suppression, rescue services, emergency medical care, and fire prevention/education. 

The Fire Department has three internal types of volunteers designed to allow individuals to match their skills and time with the needs of the Fire District. You do not need experience to apply for a volunteer position. 

Traditional Volunteers

  • Live in District
  • Respond to at least 4 calls per month AND/OR complete at least 12 hours per month of shift coverage and maintenance at closest station.
  • Responding to at least 50% of All Calls to scene or backfill annually.
  • Minimum of 8 hours of training per month, either through on-shift training or classes.
  • Attendance of at least 50% of volunteer meetings annually.

Non-Traditional Volunteers

  • Live outside of the District
  • Minimum of 48 hours shift coverage out of Station 1, 7, or 8.
  • Respond to at least 50% of All Calls to scene or backfill annually.
  • Minimum of 8 hours of training per month, either through on-shift training or classes.
  • Attendance of at least 50% of volunteer meetings annually.

Support Volunteers

  • Assist the district with duties such as, but not limited to:
    • Station Maintenance
    • Fire Prevention/Education
    • Recruitment
    • Public Events
